About the position

The Director of Finance at Aparium Hotel Group is a pivotal role that reports directly to the General Managers and is exempt from overtime. The Director will oversee the financial responsibilities of two Aparium hotels, ensuring that all accounting practices align with GAAP compliance and the AHLA Uniform System of Accounts. The role requires a strategic thinker who can also execute tactical financial operations effectively. The Director will be responsible for leading the preparation of budgets and forecasts, collaborating with management to establish major economic objectives and policies for the hotel. This includes developing and implementing procedures to promote efficient accounting activities and providing financial analysis to key stakeholders. In addition to financial oversight, the Director of Finance will play a crucial role in human resources practices, ensuring that the hotel staff is engaged and valued. This includes participating in the hiring, training, and coaching of team members, fostering an inclusive and respectful workplace environment. The Director will also be responsible for maintaining legal and financial compliance, overseeing financial reporting, and liaising with internal and external audits. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hotel accounting and a passion for creating a collaborative and supportive work environment. Responsibilities

  • Lead and be responsible for the accounting and finance procedures, practices, and policies for the hotel.
  • Prepare budgets and forecasts for the hotel, collaborating with management to establish major economic objectives and policies.
  • Develop and implement procedures and training to promote efficient completion of accounting activities by property accountants and managers.
  • Provide financial analysis as required from Aparium key stakeholders and collaborate with the EVP of Finance, VP of Finance, and GM on hotel financial goals.
  • Administer, maintain, and enforce legal and finance compliance initiatives, policies, and procedures.
  • Oversee the hotel's financial reporting and records management, coordinating with internal and external audits.
  • Ensure compliance with the Hotel Management Agreement, including negotiating and monitoring contracts with vendors.
  • Advise management on tax code revisions and ensure timely payment and filing of all taxes and vendor invoices.
  • Participate in the interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, and motivating of team members.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting and finance management experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Hospitality is preferred but not required with proven experience.
  • Background in hotel accounting, specifically AHLA Uniform System of Accounts, is beneficial.
  • Experience in leading and implementing human resources practices, including recruitment and employee engagement activities.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule to accommodate month-end responsibilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with financial analysis and reporting in a hotel setting.
  • Familiarity with legal compliance in finance, including SOX and PCI regulations.
