About the position

The Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the Atherton Community School District, including payroll, finance, and business services. This role involves managing day-to-day financial activities, ensuring compliance with educational guidelines, and preparing financial reports. The Director will also coordinate staff training and represent the district in various professional organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, manage, and supervise payroll, finance, and business service functions.
  • Ensure compliance with Michigan Department of Education guidelines and MPSERS regulations.
  • Prepare financial reports and ensure timely submission of bills payable.
  • Attend school district board of education meetings and present financial reports.
  • Work with auditors to complete district audits and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
  • Establish business office procedures for maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Evaluate and implement accounting practices in compliance with state and federal requirements.
  • Coordinate staff training on business application software and procedures.
  • Prepare statistical data for budget development and contract negotiations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, management, human resources, educational administration, or related field.
  • Valid CPA license and eligibility for Chief School Business Official certification.
  • Minimum three years of experience in a K-12 school district business office or related administrative position.
  • Experience with Schools Open software preferred.
  • Strong supervisory and evaluation skills for managing staff.

  • Experience in K-12 public school business director roles.
  • Proficiency in computer technology and office management.
