About the position

The Director of Finance at Elsie Whitlow Stokes Community Freedom Public Charter School is responsible for overseeing key financial operations, including auditing, cash flow management, debt service, and capital fund investments. This role involves financial planning, budgeting, payroll accounting, and accurate financial reporting, while also managing real estate and fixed assets to support the school's strategic financial goals. The Director collaborates closely with the Chief Financial Officer and other administrators to ensure smooth financial operations within the school.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee key financial operations including auditing, cash flow, debt service, and capital fund investments.
  • Manage financial planning, budgeting, payroll accounting, and accurate reporting of financial data.
  • Coordinate audits of financial records and assist in preparing audit responses or corrective action plans.
  • Establish a system of control for budget execution and supervise all financial accounting.
  • Prepare the annual budget and present it for approval by the Board.
  • Maintain financial records for all federal programs and prepare necessary federal financial reports.
  • Ensure timely and accurate payment of all invoices and assist in grant applications and reimbursements.
  • Prepare and certify monthly and annual financial reports required by various stakeholders.
  • Directly supervise the finance staff and evaluate their performance.
  • Communicate and build commitment to the school's mission and core values among staff and the community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or a related discipline.
  • Ten years of accounting experience, preferably in a charter school setting.
  • Understanding of generally accepted accounting practices.
  • Valid CPA license (preferred).
