About the position

The position involves overseeing the financial operations of the Green Bay Area Public School District, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, and promoting diversity and equity within the educational environment. The role requires strong leadership in managing the Accounting and Payroll Departments, developing budgets, and maintaining financial integrity while supporting the district's mission and values.

Responsibilities

  • Follows the Core Values of the Green Bay Area Public School District in all actions.

  • Maintains daily cash flows and works with banking institutions to invest District funds.
  • Researches, interprets, and assures compliance with laws and regulations affecting the Business Services Division.
  • Provides supervision and leadership in the ongoing development, improvement, and evaluation of the Accounting and Payroll Departments.
  • Develops Accounting and Payroll Department goals, objectives, priorities, and budgets.
  • Monitors budget and program compliance for federal and state grants.
  • Evaluates the District's banking services and prepares proposals for improvement.
  • Conducts internal audits and reviews District policies.
  • Coordinates and supervises financial software implementation and upgrades.
  • Reviews system processes and makes recommendations for efficiencies.
  • Compiles, analyzes, and provides monthly and annual financial reports.
  • Reviews current budget and financial statements.
  • Assists in state, federal, and local audits.
  • Assists in the preparation of the annual Financial Statements for the year-end audit.
  • Assists in the determination of Other Post-Employment Benefits Liability.
  • Assists the Chief Financial Officer in the development and administration of the District's budget.
  • Evaluates the financial status of the District's self-insurance program.
  • Monitors the spend down of capital projects.
  • Monitors the financial condition of the food service program.
  • Works closely with bookkeepers to establish policies and procedures for internal controls.
  • Maintains debt schedules and coordinates all debt issuances for the District.
  • Attends Board of Education meetings as requested by the CFO.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful accounting or school finance experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years proven experience leading and managing staff.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Familiarity with state statutes dealing with school districts and various investment instruments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Certification.
  • Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction School Business Manager (08) License.
