About the position

The Director of Financial Institutions is responsible for overseeing the regulatory functions of the Florida Office of Financial Regulation (OFR) within the Division of Financial Institutions. This role involves managing personnel, budget, and core regulatory functions while ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements. The Director also represents the OFR at public meetings and liaises with other regulatory agencies, contributing to the mission of protecting consumers and promoting a safe financial marketplace.

Responsibilities

• Supervise direct reports, including motivating, training, and providing guidance and direction.
• Develop expectations and conduct regular performance discussions with staff.
• Complete performance reviews and manage disciplinary actions as needed.
• Monitor leave and attendance, maintain work schedules, and complete timesheets.
• Ensure all staff complete required training and are offered additional training.
• Manage the budget, personnel, and core regulatory functions of the Division.
• Anticipate and plan for future regulatory needs.
• Recommend needed regulatory changes and oversee their implementation.
• Serve as a representative of OFR at public meetings and before the Legislature.

Requirements

• Five or more years of professional work experience in financial examination, auditing, compliance, or regulatory oversight within the financial services industry.
• Three or more years of professional work experience directly supervising, organizing, directing, and evaluating subordinate employees.
• A postsecondary degree in economics, finance, business, or accounting may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Nice-to-haves

• Three or more years of professional experience in risk assessment, compliance, or business operations within the financial services industry.
• Extensive leadership and supervisory experience in the financial services industry.
• Detailed knowledge of laws and rules governing financial institutions.
• Experience with administrative regulatory compliance.
