About the position

The Director of Financial Institutions at the State of Florida's Office of Financial Regulation is responsible for overseeing the regulatory functions of the Division of Financial Institutions. This role involves managing personnel, budget, and core regulatory functions while ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements. The Director will lead a team, develop performance expectations, and represent the agency in public meetings and legislative sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises direct reports including motivating, training, providing guidance and direction.
  • Develops expectations and meets with staff regularly to discuss performance, completes performance reviews and disciplinary action if needed.
  • Monitors leave and attendance, maintains work schedules to ensure proper coverage and completes timesheets.
  • Ensures all staff complete the required training and are offered additional training.
  • Manages the budget, personnel, and core regulatory functions of the Division.
  • Proactively seeks ways to further the OFR's mission and anticipates future regulatory needs.
  • Recommends needed regulatory changes and implements them.
  • Serves as a representative of OFR at public meetings and before the Legislature.

Requirements

  • Five (5) or more years of professional work experience in financial examination, auditing, compliance, and/or regulatory oversight within the financial services industry.
  • A postsecondary degree from an accredited college/university in economics, finance, business, or accounting may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Three (3) or more years of professional work experience directly supervising, organizing, directing, and evaluating subordinate employees.

Nice-to-haves

  • Three (3) or more years of professional experience working in risk assessment, compliance, or business operations within the financial services industry.
  • Extensive leadership and/or supervisory experience in the financial services industry.
  • Detailed working knowledge of laws and rules governing financial institutions.
  • Experience with administrative regulatory compliance.
