About the position

The Director of Fleet Services is responsible for overseeing the planning and daily operations of Fleet Services at IndyGo, the largest public transportation provider in Indiana. This role includes managing vehicle servicing, procurement, and compliance with regulations, while ensuring efficient resource utilization and safety in the workplace. The Director will also lead a team, develop operational procedures, and collaborate with various departments to enhance service delivery and maintain the fleet's reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Directs, oversees and monitors all vehicle servicing operations and activities.
  • Establish and monitor budgets and staffing levels to maximize efficient resource utilization.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures and work instructions for department efficiency.
  • Develop and implement premium cleaning programs for the corporation's equipment and rolling stock.
  • Oversee the revenue fleet bill-out process for efficient service delivery daily.
  • Manage various fleet technologies and evaluate efficiencies to enhance service delivery.
  • Serve as project manager for all contracts for the department.
  • Manage the fleet procurement process and develop vehicle specifications with stakeholders.
  • Oversee recruitment, supervision, training, productivity, evaluation, and discipline of staff.
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Department to ensure timely repairs and compliance with maintenance requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with IndyGo policies and applicable regulations.
  • Manage the disposal process in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Maintain effective labor relations and address grievances in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in business management, project management, engineering, logistics, finance, or a related field is preferred.
  • Six or more years of large vehicle procurement and fleet servicing/management experience.
  • Supervisory/management experience, preferably in a union environment.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with vehicle inventory and fleet servicing processes.
  • Proven leadership skills in directing a diverse group of employees.
  • Knowledge of labor relations and contract negotiations.
  • Solid project management skills.
  • Ability to develop and monitor a budget and conduct financial analysis.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a municipal or public transportation environment.
  • Familiarity with diesel, hybrid, and battery electric vehicle technologies.
