About the position

The Director of Fleet Shop Services at CenterPoint Energy is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction for fleet operations across a multi-state service territory. This role focuses on overseeing maintenance, fleet acquisitions, and dispositions while implementing Lean Management principles to optimize processes and foster collaboration across departments. The position aims to enhance fleet sustainability and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for fleet operations across multiple states.
  • Develop and implement a fleet road map, including strategies for electric vehicles and equipment.
  • Implement Lean Management principles to optimize processes and reduce waste.
  • Ensure efficient and effective management of fleet teams.
  • Plan, procure, manage, and dispose of the company's fleet (vehicles and equipment).
  • Oversee maintenance and repairs, including service turnaround time.
  • Manage fueling programs.
  • Utilize fleet management software to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate with 3rd party providers for fleet-related services.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with all company departments.
  • Monitor and analyze fleet performance metrics to drive continuous improvement.
  • Manage budget and financial planning for fleet operations.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, regulatory, and environmental standards.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance fleet sustainability and reduce environmental impact.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement within the fleet team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Engineering, or a related field (relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in fleet management, preferably within the utility industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong background in Lean Management principles and practices.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-state environment.
  • Proficiency in fleet management software and tools.
