About the position

The Director of the Forensic Accounting Unit at the Queens District Attorney's Office is responsible for overseeing the office's investigative efforts related to financial and economic crimes. This role involves directing a team of investigative accountants and financial analysts, ensuring thorough investigations into fraud and related criminal activities, and collaborating with various law enforcement agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and supervise investigative accountant and financial analyst staff in conducting confidential economic/financial crime investigations and prosecutions.
  • Oversee staff in gathering documentation and evidentiary material.
  • Provide guidance to staff in conducting detailed analysis of banking, credit card, and other financial documentation related to ongoing investigations and prosecutions.
  • Provide training to staff in preparing records for use in investigations, prosecutions, and trials.
  • Serve as a liaison with outside agencies including the IRS, the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, and other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, as well as banking and credit card institutions.
  • Represent the District Attorney at meetings, hearings, or other events.
  • Advise the District Attorney and Executive staff on the development and implementation of strategies to address economic crimes in Queens County.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the District Attorney or Executive staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) preferred.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of full-time, satisfactory administrative, managerial/supervisory experience in Law Enforcement, Business or Public Administration, Accounting, Auditing or a related field.
  • Eight (8) years of full-time paid professional accounting or auditing experience, including two (2) years in Criminal Justice or a related field.
