About the position

The Director of Foundation Relations is responsible for daily execution of Butler's institution-wide grant-seeking and -stewardship activities. Working with the Executive Director of Foundation Relations, the Foundation Relations team works as a centralized clearinghouse for the University's foundation, corporate, and government grant activities, and prioritizes grant opportunities of $1 million or more, generated from the Office of the President and/or in support of university strategic priorities. The Director provides effective project management and strategic guidance to ensure strong coordination among the faculty and staff involved in each grant project. As a critical member of the revenue-generating team within Advancement, the Director is responsible for generating a consistent number of proposal submissions and awards in support of Advancement targets, ensuring each proposal, report, and other related deliverable is completed on-time and meets the specified requirements of each respective funder. The ideal candidate has demonstrated success securing, stewarding, and reporting on grant funding from foundations, corporations, and/or government agencies. The ideal candidate will also display exceptional attention to detail and the ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of campus partners.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve and exceed fundraising targets through the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of local and national foundations, corporations, and government agency funding opportunities.
  • Contribute to the development of letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and other appropriate correspondence necessary to secure new gifts and commitments from existing and new foundation partners.
  • Provide ongoing support to grant-funded project teams to ensure effective tracking and reporting of metrics and grant expenditures.
  • Establish and manage project timelines to ensure effective composition, review and approval or grant proposals and reports in collaboration with university partners.
  • Maintain accurate records of foundation, corporate, and government agency correspondence in University's database of record.
  • In partnership with Executive Director of Foundation Relations, identify and develop process improvements and efficiencies to maximize fundraising potential and impact.
  • Foster positive relationships with university leadership, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders, and actively and positively contribute to a trusting and collaborative culture.
  • Perform other related duties as required and deemed appropriate to effectively accomplish responsibilities of position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Five or more years of experience in higher education fundraising and/or grant writing for signature initiatives within complex organizations (or equivalent combination of related foundation, nonprofit or consulting experience).
  • Strong interpersonal and written communications skills with demonstrated attention to detail and ability to coordinate people and handle multiple deadline-driven projects at once
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills required
  • Self-starter that holds self and others accountable to produce high-quality work on-time.
  • Exceptional customer- donor service
  • Tact, discretion, and prudence in working with confidential and sensitive data
  • Computer software skills, including Microsoft Office is required

  • Knowledge of integrated client database systems is preferred
