About the position

The Director of Fund Development is a full-time leadership role at Tichenor Clinic for Children, responsible for enhancing the sustainability of the clinic's services through effective donor management and fundraising strategies. This position involves working closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors to cultivate and solicit individual donors, while also supervising a Development and Communication Assistant. The role includes leading the organization's centennial fundraising efforts in 2026 and requires familiarity with the Long Beach community.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the annual fundraising strategy.
  • Cultivate donor prospects and manage a portfolio to meet revenue goals.
  • Steward donor relationships and upgrade current donors to larger gifts.
  • Schedule and prepare for meetings with current and prospective donors.
  • Develop and monitor fundraising project budgets.
  • Supervise the Development and Communications Assistant, including training and performance management.
  • Support the Board Development Committee in fundraising efforts.
  • Collaborate with the contract grant writer for grant applications and reporting.
  • Plan and implement donor recognition and cultivation events.
  • Develop and implement an annual communications plan and strategy.
  • Produce the impact report and develop messaging for donor-facing materials.
  • Create content for newsletters and social media, and oversee website updates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of demonstrated success in direct fundraising.
  • Experience managing a donor portfolio and securing sponsorships.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in fundraising software and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience working for a non-profit organization is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with the Long Beach, CA area and established community connections.
  • Experience with Canva and Adobe software.
  • Deep understanding of or lived experience with disability.
