About the position

The Director of Government Affairs Communications at The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace is a pivotal role within the Communications team, responsible for developing and executing a bipartisan engagement strategy to enhance outreach with legislative and executive branch officials. This position aims to leverage Carnegie's research and expertise to foster relationships with government stakeholders and ensure compliance with relevant lobbying laws.

Responsibilities

  • Create an outreach plan to advise Carnegie scholars on bipartisan engagement with legislative and executive branch officials.
  • Develop and lead a bipartisan engagement strategy to share Carnegie's research and scholars' expertise.
  • Work internally to understand existing scholarship and identify opportunities for enhanced engagement.
  • Build and maintain relationships with government officials, including members of Congress and their staff.
  • Identify opportunities for and advise scholars on congressional testimony and best practices for outreach.
  • Create new approaches to disseminate Carnegie research to government audiences.
  • Manage proactive events, briefings, and travel with government officials.
  • Advise Carnegie's leadership on legislative and executive branch outreach strategies.
  • Understand and help implement the organization's compliance with all relevant lobbying laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field; master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in government affairs, public policy, or a related field, preferably related to foreign affairs.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful legislative and government outreach strategies.
  • Strong understanding of the legislative process, including deep experience on or with Capitol Hill.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a developed network of relevant contacts.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across the political spectrum.
