About the position

The Graduate, Online & Professional Studies (GPS) division at UMass Lowell is dedicated to servicing master's students in both online and on-campus programs, as well as international students and adult undergraduate students enrolled through corporate partnerships. This division is responsible for all winter and summer session programming, along with online programming during the Fall and Spring semesters. The Enrollment Management (EM) enterprise within GPS encompasses recruitment and admissions, student advising and success, and course scheduling, working collaboratively with the division's marketing and technical services departments. The Director of GPS Enrollment Operations plays a pivotal role in optimizing enrollment operations throughout the student journey. This position aims to improve processes within and between EM units, grow enrollments, enhance scalability, and improve operational efficiencies. The Director will leverage technology to streamline the integration of recruitment, admissions, enrollment, and retention functions, ultimately enhancing the student experience. Reporting directly to the Executive Dean of GPS, the Director will oversee daily EM activities and performance, serving as a key liaison with university functions such as the Registrar, Financial Aid, and Student Financial Services. In this matrix management role, the Director will work closely with various EM units to identify and implement process improvements that foster growth and enhance the student experience. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, experience with student information systems and CRMs, and a proven track record in process improvement within a higher education context. The Director will utilize data to identify operational issues, implement solutions, and assess their impact, ensuring that enrollment management operations are efficient and effective. The Director will also be responsible for creating an Operations Calendar that aligns GPS operations with university-wide processes, monitoring enrollment statistics, and collaborating with marketing on campaign scheduling. This role requires a strategic mindset, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to foster collaboration across various university departments to achieve enrollment goals and deliver an exceptional student experience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the overall Enrollment Management (EM) function and daily activities within the GPS division.
  • Collaborate with leaders of all EM units to identify and implement process improvements.
  • Create and maintain an Operations Calendar to align GPS operations with university processes.
  • Monitor operational performance metrics of individual EM units and the overall EM function.
  • Serve as the liaison between EM functional units and GPS Technical Services to optimize EM systems.
  • Work closely with GPS leadership to set recruitment, re-enrollment, and retention goals.
  • Utilize data to monitor enrollment statistics and address areas of concern.
  • Facilitate cohesion among separate operating units within GPS enrollment management.
  • Collaborate with marketing on campaign scheduling and data integration.
  • Ensure effective use of technology and best practices across EM units.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution and five to eight years of progressively responsible experience in enrollment management or a related field, or a bachelor's degree with eight to twelve years of experience.
  • Solid knowledge of various areas within enrollment management including recruiting, admissions, advising, and student services.
  • Experience using higher education-related computer systems, including a student information system and a CRM.
  • Strong analytical skills and results-oriented mindset, with the ability to use data to identify and solve problems.
  • Multi-year supervisory experience, including direct supervision of teams.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both oral and written.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with graduate, adult, international, and online student populations.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce and Marketing Cloud or similar marketing automation platforms.
  • Experience in implementing business process improvements.
