About the position

The Director of Health Equity Research and Analysis at The Commonwealth Fund is a pivotal role focused on advancing health equity in the U.S. healthcare system. This position involves leading research initiatives, assessing grant proposals, and collaborating with various stakeholders to promote equitable health outcomes, particularly for marginalized communities. The director will work closely with the Advancing Health Equity program and contribute to cross-cutting research efforts, ensuring that equity is integrated into the foundation's work.

Responsibilities

• Assess grant proposals for validity and appropriateness of methodology related to health equity.
• Review deliverables from funded grants for potential collaboration across the Fund.
• Synthesize outcomes from various grants to highlight successes and areas for improvement.
• Collaborate with the AHE team to develop surveys and health equity tracking tools.
• Oversee a small grantmaking portfolio to advance equity and research.
• Prepare detailed memos and backgrounders to inform strategic decisions.
• Prepare impactful convenings and presentations to internal and external partners.

Requirements

• Master's degree or higher in public policy, business administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of five years of professional experience in research, policy analysis, or a related field.
• Strong foundation in quantitative and/or qualitative research methods.
• Experience in statistical data analysis using STATA or other statistical software.
• Established research record with contributions to peer-reviewed journals.

Nice-to-haves

• Grantmaking experience or experience in philanthropy.
• Expertise in health equity and social determinants of health frameworks.
• Experience with cross-sectional health equity data and metrics.
