About the position

The Director of Healthcare is responsible for providing nursing care to residents in accordance with established standards and practices. This role emphasizes quality assurance, resident safety, and infection control, while also overseeing home healthcare and hospice services. The Director will manage nursing staff, ensure compliance with state regulations, and maintain effective communication with residents and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to the scope of practice for nursing licensure per state regulatory guidelines.
  • Monitors residents' safety on a continuing basis and assists family members in times of stress or crisis.
  • Prepares, administers, and charts the administration of prescribed medications; documents effectiveness and adverse reactions.
  • Maintains and monitors MARs and EMARs on a daily basis and ensures accuracy.
  • Ensures personal comfort of residents during bathing, cleaning, feeding, and other activities.
  • Maintains a close working relationship with community leadership to foster resident family support and welfare.
  • Attends meetings as required and works cooperatively with management and care team members.
  • Coordinates, supports, and supervises home healthcare and hospice services for residents.
  • Ensures all resident documentation is complete and current while maintaining standards set by the state and company.
  • Reviews incident reports and follow-up notes regularly to ensure proper procedures are followed and documented.
  • Processes and implements physicians' orders accurately and promptly, using nursing judgment.
  • Conducts inventory of all medical/nursing supplies and places monthly orders for needed supplies.
  • Monitors the careful and efficient use of supplies and ensures equipment is clean and functional prior to use.
  • Communicates changes in residents' conditions and status with community leadership and responsible parties.
  • Prepares for and participates in care conferences.
  • Records vital signs and measures intake as needed.
  • Collects specimens as ordered.
  • Interviews, hires, and trains employees; plans, assigns, and directs work; appraises performance; addresses complaints and resolves problems.
  • Available to staff 24 hours to answer questions regarding residents.
  • Participates in all new resident admissions.
  • Performs monthly supervisory visits to all Med Technicians in states where RN delegation is permitted.
  • Verifies the training and competency of certified medication aides in states where permitted.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Professional Nursing Program, approved by the state of employment, and licensed to practice as a registered or licensed nurse.
  • RN license preferred.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in Memory Care preferred.
  • Some supervisory or leadership experience strongly desired.
  • Demonstrates appropriate judgment skills for independent clinical decisions in routine and emergency resident care matters.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
  • Attention to detail to ensure accuracy.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and flexible hours as necessary.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating procedures, policies, and employee manuals.
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence effectively.
  • Ability to speak effectively in front of others.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently.

  • Experience in geriatrics or related fields.
  • Advanced communication skills for effective interaction with families and staff.
