About the position

The Director of HRI Operations at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) plays a pivotal role in overseeing the operational and administrative functions of the Harte Research Institute (HRI). This position reports directly to the Senior Executive Director and encompasses a range of responsibilities that are both internal and external facing. The Director will be responsible for fiduciary oversight of the institutional budget, which includes budget preparation and administration, grant and proposal management, and compliance with federal, state, and institutional reporting requirements. The role also involves managing payroll, purchasing, and travel-related activities, ensuring that all operations align with best practices in grantmaking and compliance with applicable laws. In addition to fiduciary duties, the Director will oversee administrative functions, working closely with the Office of Sponsored Research Administration to ensure the approval of grantee proposals and compliance reviews. This includes processing award letters and grant reporting, as well as performing final compliance reviews on grants. The Director will also be responsible for assigning and monitoring the workflow of administrative and support staff, designing and implementing systems to maximize operational efficiency. The operational aspect of the role includes overseeing the business continuity plan to safeguard the Institute against internal or external threats. This involves maintaining both hard and soft assets, managing special projects, coordinating events, and providing daily operational leadership. The Director will lead program integration in accordance with the center's scope and mission, ensuring that all operational activities are executed effectively and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for fiduciary duties including budget preparation and administration, grant and proposal management, and annual reporting.
  • Oversee payroll, purchasing, and travel-related activities.
  • Work closely with the Office of Sponsored Research Administration to oversee approval of grantee proposals and compliance review.
  • Perform final compliance review on grants as applicable.
  • Assign and monitor the workflow of administrative and support staff.
  • Design and implement systems to maximize operational efficiency.
  • Oversee business continuity plan for the Institute.
  • Manage special projects and coordinate events from inception to implementation.
  • Assist Senior Executive Director with special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Provide daily operational leadership and manage staff assigned to the program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field.
  • Ten (10) years of related experience in administration and management.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database/financial applications.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively in a team atmosphere.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • A master's and/or doctoral degree or equivalent in a related field.
  • Eight years of related experience in research administration or similar capacity managing large teams.
  • Extensive skills for word processing, database/spreadsheet analysis, and report preparation.
  • Established track record of leading teams supporting research in an academic setting.
  • Financial management experience in a grant-making organization.
