About the position

The Director of Human Resources (HR) is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the HR, Benefits, Recruitment, Safety, and Training departments within the organization. This position requires a blend of strategic planning and hands-on implementation, aimed at enhancing HR functions and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. The director will lead a team of up to 25 members, develop company policies, manage compensation and benefits programs, and utilize HR metrics to improve effectiveness. The role is based in the company's headquarters near Roseville, CA, and is a full-time, in-office position.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Human Resources, Benefits, Recruitment, Safety, and Training departments.
  • Develop company policies and procedures in support of the overall strategic plan.
  • Collaborate with management to understand their needs and challenges, proposing solutions.
  • Design and manage compensation and benefits programs to attract and retain employees.
  • Utilize HR metrics to assess and enhance the effectiveness of HR programs and initiatives.
  • Travel to all company locations to understand local issues and create goodwill with remote locations.
  • Identify training needs and develop programs to support employee growth and development.
  • Oversee the performance appraisal system that drives employee development and retention.
  • Directly manage a team of 25 members across multiple departments, providing mentorship and guidance.
  • Ensure compliance with wage and hour laws and union agreements.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in human resources including employee relations and compliance matters.
  • Prior leadership experience overseeing a human resources department with multiple team members.
  • Strong Emotional Intelligence (E.Q.) to work effectively with diverse personality types.
  • Ability to provide options, ideas, and solutions to HR situations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Human Resources certification (PHR / SPHR / SHRM-SCP or SHRM-CP).
  • Experience with union labor relations and contracts.
  • Prior experience overseeing safety or recruitment.
