About the position

The Director of Human Resources at Oklahoma Wesleyan University is responsible for overseeing all human resources functions, including benefit administration, employment policy, legal compliance, recruiting, staffing, compensation, payroll, employee relations, and performance management. This role requires a strategic view of HR while effectively executing daily tasks. The Director must demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills, confidentiality, and decision-making abilities, while also managing a small HR team and contributing to various HR initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and selection of key employee benefits and oversee their administration, including medical, dental, life, disability, workers comp, retirement (403b), and flexible spending.
  • Coordinate annual open enrollment periods and new employee enrollment.
  • Reconcile monthly billing with employee deductions.
  • Oversee recruitment and selection, coordinating with managers to solicit applications, conduct interviews, and ensure alignment with the university's mission and values.
  • On-board new employees and oversee legal compliance in the hiring process.
  • Work with the legal team to secure appropriate work visas when necessary.
  • Oversee the HRIS system, including payroll, time and attendance, and benefits management.
  • Stay current on employment law and compliance requirements, updating policies and practices as needed.
  • Solicit employee feedback through surveys and informal interactions to inform policies and initiatives.
  • Conduct exit interviews to collect feedback and university equipment.
  • Assist with compiling salary and benefits budgets and monthly payroll processing.
  • Complete all HR-related reports and surveys.
  • Assist in developing and expanding an employee training program.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Human Resources or related field.
  • Proven experience in HR management and administration.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with HRIS systems and payroll processing.
  • Familiarity with employee training program development.
  • Experience in a higher education environment.
