About the position

The Director of Human Resources at Canvas will play a pivotal role in leading and developing the HR department, ensuring alignment with the company's strategic goals. This position requires a strong understanding of HR practices within a federal contractor environment and a commitment to enhancing HR services. The HR Director will mentor a team of HR professionals, manage compliance with employment laws, and implement effective employee benefits plans.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Canvas leadership to understand company goals and strategy.
  • Lead the HR team to deliver innovative and compliant recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Mentor, train, and support HR team members including recruiters and benefits administrators.
  • Facilitate professional development and training for HR staff.
  • Manage and refine employee standards and procedures, staying updated on trends and regulations.
  • Communicate opportunities for improvement and changes to corporate leadership and workforce.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Research, negotiate, and implement cost-effective employee benefits plans.
  • Plan, monitor, and appraise HR activities to recognize excellence and areas for improvement.
  • Lead efforts to continuously improve corporate services.
  • Enhance the ability to coach and manage performance within the organization.
  • Develop approaches for positive recognition and appreciation for performance.
  • Handle negative performance in accordance with company policy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field.
  • 10 years or more of relevant HR experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated advanced-level verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to act with integrity and professionalism.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification desired.
  • DoD Contractor experience is highly desired.
  • Proficiency with Deltek Costpoint is highly desired.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a federal contractor environment.
  • Advanced certifications in HR management.
