About the position

The Director of Information Technology/Chief Information Officer (CIO) for Fairfax County, VA, is a senior leadership role responsible for directing the county's technology program. The CIO shapes the strategic direction for technology services and digital transformation, overseeing the administration, planning, budgeting, and operations of the Department of Information Technology (DIT). This position requires a collaborative and transformational leader with a strong strategic mindset to build a high-performing, customer-focused IT environment that aligns with county goals.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the strategic direction for technology services and digital transformation.
  • Provide leadership, direction, oversight, and guidance for the Department of Information Technology (DIT).
  • Supervise a team of IT program directors, managers, architects, and commercial services.
  • Manage DIT's funding levels and IT Investment budget plan.
  • Oversee IT architecture enabling online digital services to the public.
  • Supervise the development and support of ERP, WEB, CRM, and GIS platforms.
  • Act as the steward of county IT assets and access, supervising the county IT/Cyber Security office.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in information technology, computer science, business administration, or a related field.
  • Ten years of increasingly responsible managerial experience in applying information technology in a government or business organization.
  • Extensive knowledge of information systems analysis, design, construction, integration, operation, security, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of process innovation, re-engineering/redesign, organization, and management principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project management, contract management, and vendor relationships.
  • Ability to foster and maintain successful customer relationships and provide quality service.
  • Ability to analyze complex technical data and draw sound conclusions.
  • Ability to organize, plan, and direct complex technical operations.
  • Ability to present ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with associates, County officials, and the public.
