About the position

The Director of Internal and Executive Communications at the College of the Holy Cross is a key member of the Marketing and Communications team, responsible for developing and executing a strategic internal communications plan that aligns with the College's strategic goals. This role involves creating engaging communications that foster a sense of belonging among students, faculty, and staff, while also preparing high-quality executive communications for the College's leadership. The director will lead initiatives to enhance internal communication practices and manage one direct report.

Responsibilities

  • Develop engaging internal communications that promote transparency and belonging among the college community.
  • Build and execute an internal editorial and communications plan aligned with the college's strategic plan.
  • Create and document standard processes and templates for internal communications.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Communications Officer to empower campus communicators and reduce email fatigue.
  • Lead the strategy for the college's intranet, Ignite.
  • Manage one direct report responsible for internal communications content.
  • Coordinate communications with other campus communicators to reach key audiences effectively.
  • Support major announcements and initiatives through writing, research, and fact-checking.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership on crisis communications and issues management.
  • Develop content for sensitive events with discretion.
  • Monitor news and global events for opportunities and concerns relevant to the campus community.
  • Perform other critical writing tasks as assigned.
  • Enhance the quality of presidential communications through compelling speeches and written materials.
  • Tailor communications for audience appeal and conduct research on relevant topics.
  • Provide counsel to the president on style and delivery of remarks.
  • Ensure alignment of communications with the overall messaging strategy for the president.
  • Maintain knowledge of peer institutions and current events to inform presidential communications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5-7 years of professional experience in communications, journalism, or publishing
  • Familiarity with common communications tools and technologies
  • Experience as a high-level speechwriter preferred
  • Industry knowledge of higher education is a plus
