About the position

The IT Operations Director at Swope Health Services plays a crucial role in overseeing and leading the strategic direction, infrastructure, and information technology needs of the Health Center. This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and support of Swope Health Service's data communications and Telecom network for both internal and external users. The IT Operations Director ensures the smooth operation of all Network and Telecommunications systems, providing maximum performance and availability for users, including staff, clients, customers, and suppliers. In addition to managing the day-to-day operations, the IT Operations Director will be involved in network design, build-out, upgrades, and security. This role requires close collaboration with other department leaders and the senior leadership team to assess and address the maintenance and growth needs of the network. The Director will lead, develop, mentor, and inspire a cross-functional information technology team, implementing and overseeing the quality of technology deliverables while maintaining a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality. The position also involves developing innovative network troubleshooting methods to reduce downtime and lower repair costs, managing Active Directory, facilitating daily/weekly backups, and designing and architecting the data network for future growth. The IT Operations Director will monitor VPNs, server logs, firewall logs, intrusion detection logs, and network traffic for unusual or suspicious activity, ensuring the security of data transferred internally and enforcing policies and procedures for system security administration and user access. This role is pivotal in maintaining the telecommunication infrastructure to support business operations and assessing vendors for new hardware and software solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, mentor, and inspire a cross-functional information technology team.
  • Implement and oversee the quality of technology deliverables.
  • Develop innovative network troubleshooting methods that reduce downtime and lower repair costs.
  • Manage Active Directory and facilitate daily/weekly backups.
  • Design and architect data network for future growth and accommodate new technology strategies.
  • Assist in managing the budget for all items related to the network.
  • Monitor VPNs, server logs, firewall logs, intrusion detection logs, and network traffic for unusual or suspicious activity.
  • Maintain and support all data network devices.
  • Help define IT infrastructure strategy, architecture, and processes.
  • Lead large IT projects, including the design and deployment of new IT systems and services.
  • Manage connection security for local area networks, wide area networks, corporate intranet, portals, and email communications.
  • Plan, design, and implement all security systems and their corresponding software including firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection systems, cryptography systems, biometrics, and antivirus software.
  • Oversee enforcement of policies and procedures for system security administration and user system access, based on industry standard best practices.
  • Recommend and deploy additional security products and tools, or enhancements to existing tools to detect violations of network security measures.
  • Ensure the security of data transferred internally and manage user log on procedures and password management practices.
  • Design and implement security system and end user activity audits.
  • Propagate network security awareness among employees.
  • Maintain telecommunication infrastructure to support business operations.
  • Assess vendors and develop test strategies for new hardware and software.
  • Analyze business requirements by partnering with key stakeholders across the organization to develop solutions for IT needs.
  • Mentor, coach, and discipline employees when appropriate.
  • Maintain quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards.
  • Maintain organization's effectiveness and efficiency by defining and delivering strategic plans for implementing information technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in the field of computer information systems or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years of network engineering experience, or at least 15 years of experience in an enterprise environment.
  • CCNA certification preferred but not required.
  • At least 8 years of experience with Cisco ASA/PIX.
  • 7 years of experience with VoIP/Voice technology.
  • 7 years of experience in Controller-based wireless management.
  • 7 years of experience with Cisco IOS.
  • Knowledgeable in designing and troubleshooting DHCP/DNS platforms or protocols.
  • Expert knowledge of network and IS security components, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, data encryption, and other industry-standard techniques and practices.
  • Expert knowledge of IP, TCP/IP, and other network administration protocols, including their vulnerabilities and solutions.
  • Expert knowledge of applicable practices and laws relating to data privacy and protection.
  • Working technical knowledge of current systems software, operating systems, and PC protocols and standards, including Windows Active Directory.
  • Hands-on experience with devices such as switches and servers.
  • High level of analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to conduct research into security issues and products as required.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
