About the position

The Director of Maintenance is responsible for managing both local and remote maintenance facilities, overseeing shop administrative tasks related to preventive maintenance and repairs. This role ensures alignment with overall business objectives, safety standards, and regulatory demands, while supervising the shop supervisor and technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Manages fleet preventive maintenance.
  • Resolves driver complaints regarding company equipment.
  • Ensures that each direct report understands the company objectives.
  • Works with executive management to develop strategies for cost-effective fleet growth and additional equipment requirements.
  • Develops and maintains a shop budget to ensure proper costs and adjustments are applied to services and reported to finance.
  • Ensures accurate and timely preparation, processing, distribution, and retention of all necessary reports and records regarding service maintenance operations.
  • Creates, manages, and keeps current on all processes and procedures related to work functions and DOT compliance.
  • Works with the executive team on strategic fleet and transportation planning, including managing capital expenditure and strategic IT initiatives.
  • Researches and establishes working relationships with maintenance vendors for handling vehicle breakdowns on the road.
  • Ensures safety procedures are well developed and implemented in the service maintenance shop.
  • Maintains service and maintenance records of all vehicles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical services/engineering on diesel engines or equivalent combination of education and skills.
  • 3+ years of previous work experience in a commercial vehicle maintenance facility in a supervisory capacity.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of the Transportation Industry and knowledge to keep tractors and trailers in good mechanical repair.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and requirements as well as CSA initiatives.
  • Project management skills to plan and manage projects and processes, allocate resources, monitor progress, and establish budgets.
  • Strong skills in managing a group of maintenance technicians.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
