About the position

The Director of Marketing & Communications at the National Cherry Blossom Festival is responsible for the strategic planning, development, and implementation of all marketing and communications strategies and public relations activities. This role oversees marketing efforts, PR initiatives, advertising campaigns, and digital marketing, ensuring alignment with the Festival's brand identity. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a collaborative spirit, and a commitment to innovation and excellence in a mission-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Create, implement and measure the success of a comprehensive marketing, communications and public relations program.
  • Build strong relationships and collaborate with key brand stewards to cultivate and manage the Festival's brand voice and style.
  • Serve as lead in the development of message-driven events and campaigns.
  • Develop and execute a year-round communication and production calendar.
  • Work with graphic designers and external agencies on the development of publications and promotional materials.
  • Develop and manage departmental budget.
  • Research and develop new advertising and marketing streams for Festival events.
  • Own and optimize all marketing channels, including the Festival's website and social media accounts.
  • Ensure brand integrity in all Festival materials.
  • Oversee development and coordination of resource materials for sponsor procurement.
  • Direct photography and videography efforts for marketing initiatives.
  • Ensure timely responses to general public inquiries.
  • Coordinate with Destination DC for up-to-date information.
  • Coordinate and execute external marketing committee meetings.
  • Monitor and analyze website traffic and social media impressions to optimize ROI.
  • Conduct relevant market research and competitive analysis.
  • Direct post-event sentiment surveys and attendee metrics analysis.
  • Evaluate the market for new marketing opportunities and maintain relationships with partners.
  • Serve as a Festival representative with the media and oversee the annual press conference.
  • Supervise the Marketing & Communications team and provide performance feedback.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Communications or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two to three years in a Director level position or comparable experience.
  • At least seven years of overall experience in marketing and communications.
  • Proven ability to think strategically and analyze critically.
  • Experience developing and managing budgets.
  • Superior communication and writing skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Monday.com and Slack.
  • Familiarity with Wordpress, Elementor, Google Analytics, Brandwatch, Mail Chimp, and Spatial.
