About the position

The Director of Marketing and Communications will be responsible for the planning and execution of strategic marketing, communications, brand management, and media relations for United Way of Lane County (UWLC). This role involves consulting with and incorporating input from key stakeholders to analyze, prepare, and execute a comprehensive year-round marketing and communications plan. The aim is to differentiate the United Way brand, further the impact and fundraising goals of the organization, and ensure a consistent brand experience aligned with United Way Worldwide and UWLC's mission, vision, and values. The Director will report to the VP of Resource Development and oversee the work of 1-2 employees on the marketing team. This position is also a member of the Shared Leadership Team and works closely with all UWLC staff and departments, businesses, donors, nonprofit agency partners, vendors, community service groups, and government agencies. The role requires engagement with peer local United Ways and United Way Worldwide colleagues for continuous learning and growth. The position necessitates time in the office as well as at events and sites, with some work being virtual. Key responsibilities include grounding all marketing and communication efforts in principles of anti-racism, equity, and social justice, developing and implementing annual marketing and communication strategies, overseeing the marketing budget, supervising team members, managing marketing campaigns, ensuring effective project management, and leveraging digital and social media for brand visibility. The Director will also be responsible for content creation, relationship building, and data-driven decision-making to refine strategies and optimize campaigns.

Responsibilities

  • Ground all marketing and communication efforts in principles of anti-racism, equity, and social justice.
  • Create and execute annual marketing & communication strategies and plans, including promotional campaigns and outreach.
  • Oversee the marketing budget, manage resources effectively, and track expenses.
  • Supervise and support marketing team members in execution of marketing strategies and plans.
  • Oversee the creation, execution, and compliance of marketing campaigns, ensuring adherence to laws and regulations.
  • Ensure effective project management across marketing initiatives, maintaining alignment with strategic goals, deadlines, and budget.
  • Utilize strategic thinking and current market trends to develop innovative approaches for consumer engagement and business growth.
  • Leverage social media, SEO, and other digital tactics to enhance brand visibility and engagement.
  • Ensure high-quality, engaging, and informative content creation; oversee and develop all organizational materials.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with colleagues, community partners, and volunteers.
  • Work well under pressure, adapt to changing conditions, and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive Brand Management and strategic communications plans.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data from various marketing and communication efforts to measure impact and effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Relevant Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of progressive, successful experience in marketing, branding, and communications.
  • Two or more years of direct supervisory experience.
  • Solid understanding of the full range of marketing and communications channels, including advertising, CRM, public relations, and direct mail.
  • Experienced in collecting and analyzing marketing data to assess campaign effectiveness and guide strategy adjustments.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, able to speak and write clearly, concisely, and persuasively for a broad audience.
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with people across various departments and levels of the organization.
  • Must be able to take initiative, create and execute strategies, and demonstrate leadership.
