About the position

The Marketing and Communications Director at Wave Hill will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing comprehensive marketing strategies that enhance the organization's visibility and engagement with its audience. This position requires a seasoned professional with a minimum of ten years of experience in marketing and communications, ideally within a cultural or non-profit context. The Director will be responsible for developing and implementing innovative marketing campaigns that resonate with diverse audiences while managing and refreshing Wave Hill's brand identity to ensure consistency and impact across all channels. In this role, the Director will oversee Wave Hill's digital presence, including the website, social media platforms, and email campaigns. They will set and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to lead data analysis that informs strategic decisions. Collaboration with the senior management team and programming group is essential to identify goals, strategies, and stories that will engage the community and enhance Wave Hill's profile. The Director will also craft a messaging calendar that aligns with seasonal activities and audience engagement objectives, ensuring that all communications are timely and relevant. The Director will act as Wave Hill's media representative, advising on public relations matters and liaising with communication departments of tourism and community organizations. They will support marketing efforts for revenue-generating activities, such as evening events and private functions, while partnering with the Philanthropy team to create compelling narratives for fundraising initiatives. The role requires a forward-thinking individual who stays ahead of digital trends, ensuring that the website's functionality and content remain cutting-edge. Additionally, the Director will manage the marketing department's budget and restructure the department to maximize its strengths in alignment with the organization's overall objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive marketing and communication campaign and strategies.
  • Manage and refresh Wave Hill's brand identity, ensuring consistency and impact across all channels.
  • Establish institutional marketing policy and procedures, setting an institutional standard.
  • Oversee the management of Wave Hill's digital presence: website, social media, and email campaigns.
  • Set and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), leading data analysis to inform strategic decisions.
  • Collaborate with senior management team and Wave Hill's programming group to identify goals, strategies, stories, influencers, marketing alliances and produce engaging multimedia content.
  • Stay ahead of digital trends, ensuring the website's functionality and content remain cutting-edge.
  • Craft the messaging calendar that aligns with Wave Hill's seasonal activities and audience engagement objectives.
  • Analyze marketing data to refine outreach efforts and enhance digital content impact.
  • Act as Wave Hill's media representative, advising on public relations matters.
  • Liaise with communication departments of tourism and community organizations to bolster Wave Hill's profile.
  • Support marketing efforts for revenue-generating activities like Wave Hill's evening events, private events, and retail operations.
  • Partner with the Philanthropy team to create compelling narratives for fundraising initiatives, campaigns, and donor engagement communication.
  • Innovate strategies to attract and retain new audiences, continuously developing fresh content.
  • Manage the marketing department's budget, ensuring effective resource allocation.
  • Restructure the department to maximize strength and that aligns with the department's goals and the organization's overall objectives.
  • Collaborate with external partners to produce compelling content and promotional materials.

Requirements

  • A minimum of ten years' experience in marketing and communications in a senior role, preferably at a cultural or non-profit setting.
  • Proven track record of strategic thinking, creativity, and effective storytelling.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style and strong editing skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management ability; a balanced and responsible approach to sensitive issues.
  • Experience interviewing individuals for media pieces, video and/or audio editing skills are all a plus.
  • Strong leadership qualities, able to inspire and collaborate with diverse teams.
  • Experience with digital marketing tools, SEO/SEM, and web development.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Additional skills in media interviewing, video, and audio editing are advantageous.
