About the position

The Director of Marketing and Communications at United Way of Rhode Island is a pivotal role that focuses on operational excellence and strategic initiatives to enhance the organization's marketing efforts. This position is designed for an operational marketing leader who is passionate about driving efficiency and executing comprehensive marketing strategies that align with the organization's growth objectives. The Director will work closely with the Director of Brand Strategy to bring creative visions to life while ensuring that the goals of the organizational strategic plan remain central to the team's directives and outcomes. In this role, the Director will develop and execute marketing and communications strategies that not only extend the brand reach but also integrate seamlessly with fundraising and development initiatives. The position requires overseeing the development and production of campaign materials that resonate with the audience, ensuring that all marketing efforts support the strategic goals of the organization. The Director will also manage the content and production calendar, ensuring that all marketing activities are coordinated and executed effectively. Collaboration is a key component of this role, as the Director will work closely with various departments to develop campaigns and support communication needs. Leading external communications efforts across multiple channels, the Director will ensure that the organization's message is consistent, compelling, and impactful. Additionally, the Director will manage a talented marketing team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment that encourages innovation and excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute comprehensive marketing and communications strategies that align with growth objectives and extend brand reach.
  • Own the integration of marketing strategies with fundraising and development initiatives.
  • Oversee the development and production of campaign materials that resonate with our audience.
  • Ensure that our Strategic Plan goals are supported through our marketing efforts.
  • Own the content calendar, ensuring timely and coordinated content deployment.
  • Manage Asana project management workflows to streamline marketing operations.
  • Oversee MailChimp for email campaign management and deployment.
  • Own media spend and develop effective segmentation and journey strategies for targeted communications.
  • Collaborate with the development and fundraising team to align CRM communications via Andar.
  • Lead external communications efforts across various channels to enhance brand visibility and engagement.
  • Work alongside the data team to ensure audience data is accurate and maintained.
  • Manage and mentor a diverse marketing team.
  • Foster a collaborative, innovative, and high-performing team culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or comparable experience in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in a senior marketing and communications role.
  • Strong operational and project management skills.
  • Proficiency in project management tools (Asana), CRM software (Andar), and email marketing platforms (MailChimp).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in media spend management and segmentation strategies.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the nonprofit sector.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems (Andar) and fundraising communications.
  • Knowledge of digital marketing and analytics tools.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
