About the position

The Director of Marketing and Digital Engagement at East Carolina University (ECU) will play a pivotal role in enhancing the connection and engagement of the ECU alumni community. Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Alumni Relations, this position is responsible for developing a comprehensive, measurable, and data-driven marketing strategy aimed at fostering alumni relations and promoting the mission of the ECU Alumni Association (ECUAA). The Director will lead the marketing and communications efforts, identifying core audience segments and creating targeted strategies that utilize digital, tactile, and social media assets to effectively engage alumni. This includes producing various marketing collateral such as email campaigns, newsletters, social media posts, and promotional items that not only promote alumni engagement and events but also align with institutional goals and objectives. In addition to marketing strategy development, the Director will oversee the management of benefits and services that enhance the alumni experience and generate revenue for essential programming. The role also involves maintaining the ECU Alumni Association's official website, ensuring it is user-friendly and visually appealing, while also keeping content fresh and relevant. The Director will be responsible for illustrating timelines and goals through an annual marketing and communications calendar, implementing best practices in alumni marketing, and harnessing creative storytelling to share compelling alumni stories across multiple channels. The position also requires maintaining effective internal marketing and communication processes, overseeing project workflows, and coordinating marketing requests from alumni engagement staff. The Director will collaborate with colleagues across University Advancement to ensure all marketing efforts align with branding standards and are deployed in a timely manner. Furthermore, the Director will manage a team of direct reports, contributing to a positive team culture and supporting the goals of the ECUAA Board and its committees. Other duties may include attending alumni events and maintaining professional relationships with key campus partners.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive alumni marketing strategy.
  • Lead marketing and communications efforts to identify core audience segments.
  • Create layered strategies utilizing digital, tactile, and social media assets.
  • Produce marketing collateral including email campaigns, newsletters, and social posts.
  • Manage benefits and services that enhance the alumni experience and generate revenue.
  • Update and maintain the ECU Alumni Association official website.
  • Illustrate timelines and goals through an annual marketing and communications calendar.
  • Implement an alumni marketing strategy based on best practices and proven techniques.
  • Capture and share compelling stories of ECU alumni across multiple channels.
  • Ensure consistency in tone and design in all alumni marketing and communications.
  • Work with the Office of Annual Giving to develop an annual donor stewardship plan.
  • Oversee project workflow for internal marketing projects.
  • Coordinate marketing requests from alumni engagement staff and campus partners.
  • Fulfill marketing requirements of affinity marketing agreements with third parties.
  • Collaborate with University Advancement colleagues to align marketing efforts with branding standards.
  • Facilitate alumni data requests through Advancement Services.
  • Assist in developing and managing annual budget allocations for marketing and communications.
  • Manage and motivate a team of direct reports.
  • Contribute to a positive team culture and support board committee goals.
  • Attend and assist with alumni events as requested.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in communications, sales, marketing, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of progressive experience in alumni relations, public relations, sales and marketing, or non-profit organizations.
  • At least three years of relevant leadership experience in membership or affinity drive programs.
  • Experience in educational advancement, not-for-profit administration, or client-centered professions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
