About the position

The Director of Marketing & Communications at the Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA) is a key leadership role responsible for developing and executing strategic communications that align with the agency's mission to support the Latino community in San Francisco's Mission District. This position involves overseeing marketing initiatives, managing a team, and enhancing the organization's visibility and brand through various communication channels. The Director will work closely with the Vice President of Development & Communications and lead a team focused on social marketing, public relations, and media affairs.

Responsibilities

  • Implement strategies to garner earned media coverage, including crafting pitches and press releases.
  • Refine and execute an effective social media plan across various platforms.
  • Explore and leverage emerging social media opportunities to strengthen MEDA's branding and outreach.
  • Manage contractors for proactive and responsive communications support.
  • Plan and implement the organization's marketing and communications strategy, including audience targeting and messaging.
  • Monitor media coverage and produce reports for the Management Team and Board.
  • Develop and execute crisis communication strategies to manage real-time issues.
  • Approve all marketing materials and collateral designs.
  • Train staff in media relations and social media usage.
  • Lead branding and collateral design for MEDA's annual gala.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in marketing and communications, preferably in a nonprofit or corporate environment.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field; Master's Degree is a plus.
  • Proven success as a marketing/communications and brand ambassador.
  • Experience in a supervisory role.
  • Strong English writing/editing and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to social, racial, economic, and gender justice.

  • Proficiency in Spanish.
  • Experience working with social justice-oriented issues and organizations.
  • Strong demonstrated experience developing and implementing marketing strategies.
