About the position

B. F. Saul Company Hospitality Group is a subsidiary of the largest private real estate company in the Washington, D.C. area, and has been in operation for over 130 years. The Hospitality Group operates a portfolio of more than 20 business class hotels with top brands from Intercontinental Hotel Groups, Marriott International, Hilton, and Best Western Hotels: along with The Watermark Hotel, The Hay-Adams Hotel, and Perch Putt. These properties are operated by a team of more than 1,000 enthusiastic hospitality professionals! As our new Director of Marketing for The Watermark Hotel, you will be responsible for the development and performance of all sales and marketing activities and the team itself. You will develop and implement a business plan and sales and marketing strategy for the market that ensures attainment of sales goals and profitability to exceed revenue matrixes, gain market share, and grow new account business. Uses leadership skills to drive revenue, maximize profit and ensure quality. Effective management of assigned staff to ensure achievement of overall financial results, guest satisfaction and positive team member relations. The Director of Marketing focuses on client and hotel objectives in support of Our Quality Pledge and Standards of Service for the B. F. Saul Company Hospitality Group's The Watermark Hotel, Wren Tysons & Perch Putt. The Director of Marketing manages the property's reactive and proactive sales & marketing efforts while maintaining accountability for achieving revenue opportunities, and growing market share under the guidance and supervision of the RDOSM and SVP of Sales, Marketing, and Revenue Management. The Director of Marketing reports to the RDOSM and SVP of Sales, Marketing, and Revenue Management and will engage with Sales and Operations professionals throughout the portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a marketing strategy to analyze historical, current and future hotel/market trends and create a selling strategy to balance hotel objectives and maximize revenue potential.
  • Target high revenue sales calls to ensure a successful direct sales program, in accordance with goals established to penetrate new markets.
  • Provide timely, accurate, competitive pricing on all completed prospect applications submitted for pricing and approval.
  • Maximize current hotel key accounts by identifying and saturating those that offer revenue growth.
  • Produce monthly reports and sales forecasts to evaluate current/potential markets and sales trends.
  • Develop customer profiles and maintain an effective trace system to best meet client needs.
  • Schedule conventions and/or business group activities at the hotel and coordinate with other hotel departments.
  • Maintain well-documented, accurate, organized and up-to-date file management system.
  • Develop strong customer relationships through frequent communication and professional interaction.
  • Provide an environment where development of the team for the team to be successful in achieving goals is present.
  • Promptly follow-up on all customer needs and inquiries in an efficient manner.
  • Focus on revenue-producing activity and selling time by a strategic plan that maximizes direct sales efforts.
  • Achieve activity goals as established by management and complete all reports and assignments in an accurate and timely fashion.
  • Develop awareness and reputation of the hotel and the brand in the local community.
  • Exhibit a positive and involved team attitude to all hotel departments.

Requirements

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates independent problem-solving skills and identify process improvements needed.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Strong work ethic and professional focus; High level of integrity and discretion.
  • Ability to work extended hours based on business needs, with physically demanding responsibilities such as walking, standing, carrying, and lifting throughout the extended shift.
  • Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • At least 3 years of sales experience required, with a minimum of 1 year managing direct reports preferred.
  • A proven track record of success in a hotel or a related service industry.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2-year degree from an accredited university in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, or related major, preferred.
