About the position

The Director of Meetings at the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) plays a crucial role in organizing and managing significant functions and programs related to meetings and events. This position is responsible for overseeing the planning and execution of NACCHO's meetings, conferences, and special events, ensuring they align with the organization's strategic goals. The Director will supervise a team, manage budgets, negotiate contracts, and collaborate with various stakeholders to deliver high-quality and profitable meetings that support local public health initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and manage NACCHO's meetings, conferences, and special events.
  • Supervise 3-4 staff members at the Manager, Specialist, or Associate levels.
  • Develop processes and programs to implement the unit's strategy.
  • Manage financial and human resources for the meetings function.
  • Ensure effective day-to-day operations and quality standards are met.
  • Develop budgets, logistics, and contracts for meetings.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders for successful event delivery.
  • Oversee all aspects of meeting planning including operations, contract negotiations, and logistical planning.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for meetings contractors and vendors.
  • Manage pre-, onsite, and post-logistics for assigned meetings or events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant professional field.
  • 8-10 years of relevant work experience, including at least 5 years in meetings management.
  • Experience planning meetings with more than 1,000 attendees.
  • Intermediate or higher competency with Microsoft Excel and Smartsheet.
  • Strong understanding of meeting management processes and contract negotiation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree and certification in a relevant field preferred.
  • Knowledge of public health issues at the local, state, and/or federal level.
  • Certified Meeting Professional or certification in meeting or event management.
