The Director of Music is a pivotal role within the Diocese of Buffalo, responsible for the organization, technical preparation, and execution of all liturgical music at St. Joseph Cathedral. This position requires a deep commitment to promoting the full, conscious, and active participation of the faithful in liturgical celebrations, in alignment with the Church's guiding principles. The Director will ensure that the sacred music performed is of the highest quality, serving to glorify God and sanctify the faithful. Collaboration with the Rector is essential, as the Director and Rector will work together to express the mystery of Christ and the true nature of the Church through music. In this role, the Director will lead the Cathedral Choir, coordinating rehearsals, schedules, and auditions, while also preparing cantors for the Sacred Liturgy. The Director will serve as the principal organist for both Cathedral and Diocesan celebrations, overseeing the maintenance of musical instruments and the areas used by the choir. Additionally, the Director will manage the hiring and reimbursement of other musicians as needed, and will be responsible for the administrative tasks associated with the Cathedral Liturgical Program, including the production of worship aids and management of music libraries. The Director will also play a key role in planning and reviewing the liturgical repertory for various celebrations, coordinating music for Baptisms, Weddings, Funerals, and other sacramental events. Regular reviews with the Rector will ensure that the music ministry aligns with the overall liturgical vision of the parish. This position requires a flexible schedule, with responsibilities extending into evenings and weekends as necessary.
