About the position

The Director of Nursing for Acute Care Services at Rappahannock General Hospital is responsible for overseeing the integration and coordination of administrative and clinical practices within the nursing unit. This role includes 24-hour accountability, management support for nursing units, and serving as a mentor and clinical resource for nursing staff. The Director will develop unit goals to enhance patient outcomes and foster a culture of excellence, while also participating in budget development and professional development activities.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate, facilitate, and coordinate administrative and clinical practice for assigned nursing unit(s) with 24-hour accountability.
  • Provide management and clinical support to other nursing units as required.
  • Serve as a professional role model, mentor, and clinical resource/educator for nursing staff and healthcare team members.
  • Develop unit goals and objectives based on analysis of clinical and managerial processes to improve patient outcomes.
  • Represent the unit and act as a liaison to internal and external customers.
  • Participate in unit budget development, monitoring, and variance analysis/reporting.
  • Engage in product line development in partnership with clinical value analysis team and materials management team processes.
  • Participate in professional development activities and hospital-wide committees.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher degree in Nursing is required; Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse from the Commonwealth of Virginia State Board of Nursing or awaiting reciprocity.
  • Certification in specialty or nursing leadership preferred.
  • Membership in a professional organization preferred.
  • Current Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required.
  • Three to five years of experience as a professional nurse with progressively increasing responsibility.
  • Broad knowledge of clinical, psychological, and pathophysiological theories relating to nursing diagnosis and treatment.
  • Ability to perform a range of nursing techniques found in general nursing practice.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous work experience in a supervisory or charge nurse position that required knowledge of financial management and personnel supervision.
