About the position

UVA Health is seeking an experienced nursing leader with a strong business acumen and a desire to grow their career in the area of workforce development and staffing optimization. The successful candidate will be able to develop strong working relationships with all levels of team members across the organization as well as support innovation to explore new models of care delivery. In addition, the successful candidate should be able to effectively lead teams and foster employee engagement. The role fosters a work environment that promotes inter-professional collaboration, effective communication, team member engagement and retention, and professional growth and development both within assigned departments as well as throughout the organization and community served. The Director of Nursing Business Operations will effectively manage human resources and actively participate in the evaluation, creation, and implementation of policies and procedures to integrate current scientific evidence with standards of practice. It is essential to ensure that internal and external regulatory standards are met or exceeded. The successful candidate will ensure that human, space, and material resource allocation aligns with department needs. Engaging with key stakeholders to develop plans to address resource deficits or surpluses in the ever-changing healthcare field is crucial. Continual assessment and improvement of the department's performance in all areas, including customer service, quality clinical care, and financial goals, is expected. The Director will be accountable for achieving clinical outcomes as defined by national standards and the organization's strategic plan. Participation in leadership activities to support the strategic plan of the Medical Center is also a key responsibility. The role includes accurately forecasting and managing the budget for the department(s) and assuring the development of and participation in programs that address continuous quality improvement and system enhancements. In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strong working relationships with team members across the organization.

  • Engage with stakeholders to address resource deficits or surpluses.
  • Assess and improve department performance in customer service, quality clinical care, and financial goals.
  • Achieve clinical outcomes as defined by national standards and the organization's strategic plan.
  • Participate in leadership activities supporting the strategic plan of the Medical Center.
  • Forecast and manage the budget for the department(s).
  • Develop and participate in continuous quality improvement programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.
  • Master's degree in a related field within 1 year of hire.
  • 5 or more years of progressive leadership experience.
  • Management experience in an Academic Medical Center and Magnet organization preferred.
  • Excellent mentoring, training, coaching, and effective communication skills preferred.
  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification preferred.
  • Applicable specialty and/or administration certification strongly preferred at hire or within 3 years.
