About the position

The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operation of the Clinical/Nursing Services Department. The role ensures that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times, overseeing nursing services, compliance with regulations, and staff management.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates, and directs the nursing service department and its programs.
  • Develops, maintains, and periodically updates written policies and procedures for the nursing service department.
  • Evaluates department processes and implements compliance and quality improvement policies.
  • Demonstrates outstanding communication skills and leads by example.
  • Ensures compliance with established standards by all clinical/nursing personnel.
  • Maintains and improves the quality of patient care and standards of care.
  • Interviews, hires, trains, and manages nursing staff.
  • Plans, assigns, and directs work, conducts reviews, and manages discipline and rewards.
  • Addresses patient, family, and employee complaints, documenting issues and solutions.
  • Coordinates care services and implements care plans for optimal patient quality of life.
  • Conducts quality assessments and regulatory compliance rounds to monitor performance.
  • Develops staffing plans to meet direct care needs and compliance requirements.
  • Maintains training materials to assist the department in compliance understanding.
  • Audits clinical records for accuracy and completeness of resident assessments and documentation.
  • Leads and participates in company meetings and interdisciplinary conferences.

Requirements

  • Valid California RN license in good standing.
  • Current CPR and BLS certifications.
  • College/University degree preferred; five years' experience may substitute for degree.
  • Minimum three years' experience as a supervisor in a hospital or nursing setting.
  • Minimum six months experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices.
