About the position

The Director of Nursing at Ursuline Sisters of Mount St. Joseph is a pivotal role that focuses on providing compassionate healthcare services to retired Sisters living in a serene home setting. This position is not just about managing clinical tasks; it is about building meaningful relationships with the residents and ensuring their health and well-being in a nurturing environment. The Director will oversee the nursing staff, ensuring that all healthcare practices align with national and state guidelines while advocating for the Sisters' healthcare choices. This role requires flexibility, as the schedule may change, and involves on-call responsibilities to address any urgent healthcare needs that arise. In this position, the Director will be responsible for planning and developing communication and coordination mechanisms that enhance the delivery of healthcare services. This includes maintaining confidentiality of private healthcare information, investigating and resolving complaints, and serving as a liaison with physicians and other healthcare professionals. The Director will also oversee the organization of care conference meetings, ensuring that care plans are tailored to each Sister's needs and that staff are adequately trained and supervised. The Director of Nursing will play a crucial role in maintaining compliance with various licensing and regulatory requirements, preparing departmental budgets, and coordinating with government programs for the purchase of necessary medical supplies. This position requires a strong leader who can evaluate the quality of care provided, manage staffing requirements, and ensure that all staff members are engaged in the planning and delivery of services. The work environment is supportive and collaborative, emphasizing the importance of teamwork in providing high-quality care to the Sisters.

Responsibilities

  • Provides health care to the sisters utilizing sound medical practices according to national and state guidelines.
  • Serves as an advocate to ensure that medical information is provided to each sister when making personal healthcare choices.
  • Assists in planning and developing communication and coordination mechanisms for healthcare services.
  • Assists in planning and developing emergency/disaster response and coordination.
  • Communicates with sister's surrogates and family members as appropriate.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sisters' private healthcare information.
  • Investigates and resolves sisters' complaints and concerns related to healthcare.
  • Serves as liaison with physicians, pharmacies, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Assists with sisters' examinations and/or questions.
  • Accepts on-call responsibilities as per on-call schedule.
  • Ensures healthcare activities and records adhere to licensing and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepares and supervises sisters care conference meetings (care plans).
  • Assigns, supervises, guides, and instructs professional staff in providing high-quality services.
  • Ensures the maintenance of current Medicare, insurance, and healthcare surrogate records.
  • Prepares and maintains the departmental fiscal budget.
  • Coordinates with Government Programs and Benefits Coordinator on durable goods purchases.
  • Communicates perceived needs for the healthcare area and grounds to the Plant Administrator.
  • Oversees incoming order forms for proper coding, quantities, and authorized approvals.
  • Oversees the organization and destruction of medical records as needed.
  • Oversees the organization of sisters' rooms and moving of sisters as needed.
  • Plans, organizes, and oversees staff to provide sisters' care.
  • Evaluates level of care being provided to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Oversees daily staffing requirements.
  • Orients healthcare staff to their job responsibilities and ensures they are fully trained before orientation is complete.
  • Provides leadership in healthcare problem-solving as needed.
  • Oversees healthcare staff work schedules and bi-weekly payroll time, completed by ADON.
  • Prepares and delivers annual performance evaluations and 90-day performance evaluations.
  • Evaluates, schedules, and facilitates in-service meetings/trainings with assistance from ADON as needed.
  • Ensures all staff members participate in planning, problem-solving, and providing coordination of services.
  • Administers discipline according to the Staff Handbook and established healthcare policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred, but must be a Registered Nurse (RN) from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Three years of clinical experience.
  • Previous healthcare management experience.
  • Must maintain current Kentucky Nursing License in good standing.
  • Must meet all local health regulations.
