About the position

The Director of Nursing is responsible for overseeing the nursing operations within the organization, ensuring high-quality patient care and compliance with healthcare regulations. This role involves managing staffing, budgeting, and quality improvement initiatives while fostering a collaborative environment among nursing staff and other departments. The Director will also engage in patient education and serve as a key leader in surgical services, ensuring that nursing standards are upheld and that patient safety is prioritized.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively manages key operational systems including Quality, Service Design, Process Design, Location, Layout, People and Work Systems, Supply Chain Management, Inventory, Scheduling, and Maintenance.
  • Establishes and monitors Continuous Quality Improvement performance standards.
  • Engages with processes, monitors performance, and builds relationships through a visible presence in assigned service areas.
  • Manages day-to-day scheduling and staffing decisions to ensure optimal coverage and patient care.
  • Facilitates the individual development of assigned staff through effective selection, orientation, performance evaluation, and coaching.
  • Conducts corrective action discussions with documented action plans that may lead to termination when necessary.
  • Maintains employee satisfaction rating above peer group norms or achieves consistent improvement for areas of responsibility.
  • Manages direct expenses in assigned areas according to budgeted level and seeks new growth opportunities that maximize value for the organization.
  • Prepares budget for areas of responsibility to reflect an increase in value for the patient.
  • Improves satisfaction loyalty of customers provided by areas of responsibility.
  • Maintains ongoing compliance with licensure, regulatory, and accreditation standards applicable to assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Provides leadership oversight for the Clinical Coordinator of Surgical Services and MSK department staff.
  • Performs audits and addresses opportunities for improvement through process enhancement or educational initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Master's in Nursing (MSN) are required.
  • Current RN licensure in the state of Employment.
  • 5 - 7 years of experience in a Director of Surgical Services or Patient Care Services or equivalent position in a hospital overseeing basic nursing functions.
  • Surgical services and quality management experience preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in healthcare marketing to include all musculoskeletal specialties.
  • Knowledge of perioperative and department efficiency, AORN, SPD and ASPAN standards.
