About the position

The Director of Nutrition Services is responsible for managing the school district's child nutrition program, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations, and maintaining high standards of food quality and service. This role involves overseeing kitchen operations, managing staff, and fostering relationships with clients and stakeholders to promote a positive meal program experience.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and ensure seamless execution of daily production in kitchens.
  • Ensure accurate production records and compliance with meal patterns.
  • Monitor food quality, safety protocols, and cleanliness in kitchens.
  • Promote excellent customer service and resolve food quality complaints.
  • Coordinate meal preparation and transportation to satellite buildings.
  • Conduct weekly meetings with Kitchen Managers and daily staff huddles.
  • Manage staff performance, hiring, onboarding, and training.
  • Ensure compliance with HR policies and federal labor laws.
  • Establish and maintain communication with school district officials.
  • Prepare monthly status reports for the Board of Education.
  • Manage food and labor costs according to established budgets.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or College Degree meeting USDA Professional Standards.
  • Minimum 1 year in customer service/hospitality role.
  • Working knowledge of kitchen functions and equipment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Minimum 1-year supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a school nutrition program or similar environment.
  • Knowledge of HACCP processes and food safety regulations.
