The Director of Operations/Assistant Coach for Rowing at Clemson University plays a pivotal role in supporting the Head Coach in various operational and coaching responsibilities. This position is essential for the smooth functioning of the rowing program, ensuring that all logistical, administrative, and coaching aspects are managed effectively. The individual will assist in the preparation and control of the operational budget, coordinate with visiting teams, and work closely with Event Management to manage home race logistics. Additionally, the role involves organizing all team travel and executing other team activities and events, making it a multifaceted position that requires strong organizational and communication skills. In terms of operational support, the Director of Operations will be responsible for organizing, directing, and coordinating the program's administrative operations. This includes communicating directly with visiting teams and Event Management regarding home race logistics, planning home races, and managing the scheduling of non-conference opponents. The individual will also direct the production and execution of special promotional events and projects, collaborating with Clemson Video and Technology to coordinate video services during events and working with outside media vendors for coverage of home races. Travel management is another critical aspect of this role. The Director will work with the Head Coach and a travel agent to organize team travel, which encompasses flights, hotels, transportation, and food arrangements. They will also be responsible for organizing and distributing team itineraries for trips, submitting registrations for various regattas, and managing individual and program memberships with organizations such as USRowing and the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association. Additionally, the role includes assisting in the organization of official visits, including travel booking and itineraries. Budget management is also a key responsibility, where the Director will maintain and update capital and non-capital equipment purchases, track purchases and inventory to ensure compliance with university property and budget requirements, and assist coaches with recruiting travel. The individual will ensure that all travel is consistent with NCAA and Clemson rules and coordinate purchases related to the day-to-day operations of the team, including meals and supplies. Coaching is an integral part of this position, where the Director will coach practice sessions, workouts, and regattas. They will teach student-athletes the fundamentals and strategies required to compete at the highest level of intercollegiate athletics, ensuring compliance with sports medicine policies and instructing them on team concepts. The Director will also attend preparatory meetings, assist in designing and developing practice and race plans, and stay updated on sport techniques, strategies, rules, and skills. Effective communication of strategies, objectives, techniques, and concepts to team members is essential, along with performing other necessary instructional and coaching duties and meeting with student-athletes to discuss their goals and performance.
