About the position

The Director of Operations, Banking at Amalgamated Bank is responsible for providing leadership and direction across all operational units within the banking division. This role involves collaborating on strategic initiatives, deploying technology for process improvements, ensuring compliance with regulations, and overseeing daily operational processes to enhance scalability and resiliency.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Chief Operations Officer to set the division's three-year strategy.
  • Lead annual planning exercises to identify key initiatives for operational strategy.
  • Leverage technology for scalability and resiliency, including RPA and AI solutions.
  • Foster a culture of accountability and continuous process improvement.
  • Oversee cash management, deposit operations, and loan servicing within the banking division.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational structure and efficiency.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels and develop top talent for succession planning.
  • Align client needs with operational capabilities through stakeholder partnerships.
  • Implement key projects initiated by Bank Operations.
  • Maintain a holistic control environment and improve operational controls.
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external auditors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 10 - 15 years of operations management experience in a financial institution.
  • Knowledge of payment processing, item processing, and loan servicing.
  • Experience with ServiceNow, JIRA, or similar ticketing systems.
  • Familiarity with banking systems, including FIS ecosystem and Horizon core.
  • Experience leading diverse teams and driving process improvements.
  • Ability to influence outcomes across cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with M&A activity related to system conversions.
  • Six Sigma certification is a plus.
  • Strong leadership, project management, and planning skills.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant banking regulations.
  • Ability to interact effectively at all organizational levels.
