About the position
The Director of Operations Fellow at Uncommon Schools is a full-time position designed to prepare individuals for the role of Director of Operations (DOO) within the organization. This fellowship focuses on developing leadership skills necessary for managing school operations effectively, ensuring that faculty can concentrate on student achievement. The fellowship includes hands-on experience at an existing school, professional development, and opportunities for evaluation and feedback, ultimately aiming to cultivate future leaders in educational operations.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a full-time member of the school's operations team at an existing Uncommon school.
- Engage in operations work and tackle Uncommon-wide operations projects.
- Conduct observations and analysis of operational systems.
- Act as the DOO in place of the host DOO for 4-6 weeks during immersion.
- Complete pre-determined deliverables that support leadership development.
- Participate in Operations Leadership Meetings to share and problem-solve with current DOOs and other Fellows.
- Engage in professional development sessions focusing on leadership and operational management.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required.
- 4 or more years of work experience, preferably in a school-based or educational setting.
- Project planning experience with a proven ability to see large projects through to completion.
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Access.
- High-quality communication and relationship-building skills with various stakeholders.

- Experience managing others preferred.
- School-based or other educational experience preferred.
