About the position

Column is looking to hire a full-time Director of Operations to join the company's leadership team. The Director of Operations will report directly to our CEO, Jake Seaton, and should be excited about building a growth stage company and taking Column to its next stage. This role is pivotal as it encompasses the day-to-day management of the company's finance, people, and revenue operations functions. The Director of Operations will be responsible for hiring and growing a team with domain-specific expertise in each specific function within their purview, but they will also be expected to roll up their sleeves consistently and dive in. Column is a burgeoning tech startup with 50 employees and is on track to process $100M+ GTV. This role will also include managing the People Operations and Accounting Operations Managers, with plans to grow these teams within the next 12-18 months. This hybrid position will be based in NYC and will uniquely contribute to establishing and building an in-person work environment. In the first week, the new Director will learn about Column's mission, vision, products, and strategy, seeking to understand the existing finance, revenue, and people operations infrastructure. They will develop strong working relationships with members of Column's leadership team. By the end of the first month, they will take responsibility for Column's payroll and financial processes, including budgeting, reporting, and accounting. They will open requisitions for new roles on the operations team and own the hiring process, as well as take responsibility for Column's financial dashboards and identify “quick wins” that clarify the company's finances. Within the first six months, the Director will hire and manage a team of full-time employees and contractors to lead all mission-critical operational processes across finance, people ops, and RevOps, including monthly close, benefits administration, contract negotiations, and performance reviews. They will collaborate with other leaders at Column to discover and implement operational efficiency and excellence opportunities, reporting on Column's growth and key financial metrics to the company's Board of Directors. By the end of the first year, the Director will be an impactful member of the company's leadership team, making key improvements to teams, processes, infrastructure, strategy, and business model.
