The Director of Operations at Habitat for Humanity plays a crucial role in ensuring the overall fiscal success of the affiliate. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this position encompasses a wide range of responsibilities including overseeing construction, retail operations, fundraising, grant writing, family services, volunteer services, and public relations. The Director of Operations is tasked with leading the organization in achieving its mission by managing the aforementioned staff functions, all while adhering to the policies, guidelines, and budget set forth by the board of directors. This role not only involves staff oversight and leadership but also includes direct participation in grant writing and real estate development as circumstances dictate. In this capacity, the Director of Operations provides essential support and leadership to the construction and family services departments, as well as the Habitat ReStore and human resources. This includes implementing policies, plans, and directives, and reporting on all fiscal, construction, and homeowner services to the Executive Director. The Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Habitat construction, which includes planning, building, and completing homes, repairs, and revitalization efforts. Additionally, the Director ensures that the Volunteer and Family Services department operates effectively, selecting homeowners according to established policies and maintaining communication throughout the selection and building processes. The Director of Operations also directs the construction, volunteer and family services, retail, and development directors to execute initiatives and programs aligned with the approved strategic plan and annual budget. This role requires effective performance management of all direct reports and providing staff support to various committees within the organization. The Director serves as a resource to the Executive and Finance Directors on strategic development, planning, and budgeting, and is responsible for writing and reviewing grant applications to ensure compliance. Participation in fundraising events is also a key aspect of this role, contributing to the overall mission of Habitat for Humanity.
