About the position

The Director of Operations at Navy Pier is responsible for providing leadership, management, and vision to ensure operational efficiency and effective maintenance of the facility. This role involves overseeing the Maintenance & Operations Departments, preparing budgets, managing relationships with service providers, and implementing sustainability programs across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provides daily management oversight of the Maintenance & Operations teams, Trade Forepersons, and contracted labor.
  • Prepares the annual budget for Maintenance & Operations, and contracted labor.
  • Maintains and updates Maintenance & Operations, Trade Labor, and contracted labor budgets.
  • Maintains daily contact and relationships with Maintenance & Operation Departments and contracted service providers, ensuring the accuracy of monthly contracted expenses and reconciling monthly contracted invoices.
  • Organizes and oversees the work and schedules of departmental managers.
  • Implements policies and procedures that will improve day-to-day operations.
  • Ensures work environments are adequate and safe.
  • Establishes quantitative and qualitative metrics, guidelines, and standards for evaluating departmental efficiency and effectiveness; identifies opportunities for improvement.
  • Participates in the training of departmental managers.
  • Coordinates payroll with trade forepersons and the People & Culture department.
  • Coordinates Maintenance & Operations personnel requests and collaborates with People and Culture to fill budgeted positions.
  • Assists the Senior Vice President of Operations in tracking insurance claims for building, equipment, and vehicle damage and ensures repairs are made to damaged property.
  • Directs and implements sustainability programs across the organization or on various projects.
  • Advises NPI on minimizing environmental impact and oversees the delivery of impact reduction strategies.
  • Develops and measures the success of waste management, renewable energy, recycling, and pollution reduction schemes.
  • Prepares reports on sustainability achievements.
  • Projects a positive image of the organization to employees, customers, industry, and community.
  • Supports the mission of Navy Pier and upholds organizational priorities.
  • Maintains a commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration is required.
  • Minimum of eight years' experience in Property Management or Business Operations.
  • Experience at a large not-for-profit is a plus.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to author effective reports and business correspondence.
  • Problem-solving proficiency with the ability to adapt solutions as situations change.

  • Experience in sustainability program implementation.
  • Experience in a leadership role within a large organization.
