About the position

MasTec's Clean Energy and Infrastructure Group (CE&I) is a $4 billion annual revenue business unit that provides construction services for industrial facilities, including building products manufacturers, power generation facilities, manufacturing plants, and renewable energy plants. Within the CE&I group, MasTec Industrial operates as a merit shop, multi-craft heavy industrial contractor capable of self-performing all major craft trades. This ensures greater safety, quality, flexibility, and economy in delivering the work required to complete each project. The Director of Operations will oversee the project day-to-day operations of the respective Division/Business Unit, directing operations for all assigned projects through subordinate Project Managers, Construction Managers, and/or Superintendents. This role carries profit and loss responsibility for projects under their control and requires strong operational skills. The Director will develop project execution plans and direct overall activities to achieve total project objectives, which include budgeting, planning, staffing, safety, quality, and procurement. They will oversee large projects valued at $150 million or more or multiple smaller projects ranging from $25 million to $100 million. The position also involves supporting the Business Development team in selecting and pursuing prospective opportunities, building long-term relationships with clients, and representing the company at trade shows and community activities. Financially, the Director will review and analyze expenditure, financial, and operations reports to determine requirements for increasing profits for respective projects. They will manage all financial aspects of contracts, perform cost analysis activities, and negotiate contracts with suppliers. The role requires significant experience in reviewing and understanding industry-standard commercial contracts and managing change orders effectively. The Director will also enforce compliance with administrative policies, safety rules, and governmental regulations, while training and mentoring subordinate personnel. They will champion safety and quality processes on-site and ensure adherence to project schedules and budgets. The position requires extensive experience in industrial construction, project finance, and management, along with strong knowledge of project cost control methods and construction delivery models.

Responsibilities

  • Develop project execution plan and direct overall activities to assist in achieving total project objectives.
  • Responsible for budgeting, planning, staffing, safety, quality, and procurement.
  • Direct project activities to obtain optimum use of equipment, facilities, and personnel.
  • Oversee a single large project ($150+MM) or multiple small projects ($25MM - $100MM).
  • Support Business Development in the selection and pursuit of prospective opportunities.
  • Build long-term relationships with clients and represent the company at trade shows and community activities.
  • Review and analyze expenditure, financial, and operations reports to determine requirements for increasing profits.
  • Manage all financial aspects of contracts and perform cost analysis activities.
  • Negotiate contracts with equipment and materials suppliers.
  • Interact regularly with senior management and client representatives.
  • Enforce compliance of project personnel with administrative policies and safety rules.
  • Train, develop, and mentor subordinate personnel.
  • Ensure adherence to project, corporate, and client safety processes and policies.
  • Monitor and control the execution phase to ensure adherence to schedule and budget.

Requirements

  • A four-year construction, engineering or related degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or experience preferred.
  • Extensive (ten or more years) experience/knowledge of industrial construction, project level, finance and management required.
  • Recent prior experience in Heavy Industrial Construction/Construction Management with mid-to-large complex projects.
  • Strong knowledge of project cost control means and methods.
  • Advanced understanding of construction/fabrication methods, processes, and supervision of large groups essential.
  • Knowledge of multiple construction delivery models including EPC, Design-Build, etc.
  • Exceptional ability to interact professionally with clients and all levels of management.
