About the position

The Director of Operations will play a pivotal role in the management, execution, and optimization of the company's operations. This role requires a strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to drive operational excellence, improve efficiency, and implement best practices. The Director of Operations reports directly to the local President & CEO and works closely with the leadership team to align operations with the company's strategic objectives and ensure sustainable growth.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the company strategy.
  • Lead and oversee daily operations, including production, maintenance, engineering, and production planning.
  • Foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
  • Allocate resources effectively and fully utilize assets to produce optimal results.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor performance, efficiency, and the achievement of operational goals.
  • Analyze current processes, identify inefficiencies, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Develop systems and processes that track and optimize productivity and standards, metrics, and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets.
  • Work closely with other departments, such as technical, supply chain, marketing, and customer service to ensure alignment and efficiency across the organization.
  • Set clear expectations and implement plans in alignment with the company's strategic objectives.
  • Foster trusting relationships with workgroup and recruit, manage, and develop plant staff.
  • Monitor operations and trigger corrective actions.
  • Define and conform to plant, lab, and office safety procedures.
  • Address employees' issues or grievances.
  • Influence and learn from everyone in the organization.
  • Stay up to date with the latest production management best practices and concepts.
  • Stay up to date on EPA and OSHA requirements and expectations.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in operations management or comparable role.
  • BS degree in Operations Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation, and human resources), with a proven track record of meeting and exceeding targets.
  • Strong knowledge of operational processes, lean methodologies, and familiarity with industry standard equipment.
  • Strong leadership and communication abilities, with a proven ability to inspire and lead teams.
  • Knowledge of EPA and OSHA standards.
  • Strongly desired: Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement certifications.
  • Experience with ERP systems.
  • Understands stage gate methodology for commercialization.
  • Proficiency with statistics and analytics.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to effectively execute operational plans.
