About the position

The Director of Operations at The Salvation Army USA Central Territory is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the operational aspects of the organization within the Indianapolis center. This position requires a strong focus on financial management, production efficiency, store operations, property and equipment oversight, and program development. The Director will manage staff and resources with integrity and fiscal accountability, ensuring that all operations align with the organization's mission and budgetary constraints. In the financial domain, the Director will support the Administrator for Business in budget preparation and daily management of the center's budget. This includes reviewing finance and sales reports regularly, ensuring accuracy, and addressing any discrepancies with the bookkeeper. The role also involves guiding assigned departments to operate within the approved budget, thereby promoting financial health and sustainability. The production responsibilities include overseeing all product donation pick-up and store delivery, as well as managing warehouse production. The Director will work to find the most efficient and effective ways to control costs while meeting customer service needs. This includes developing and implementing Product Control Procedures to prevent shrinkage through theft or spoilage, overseeing purchasing of necessary supplies, and maintaining records concerning product acquisition, production, and sales. Store operations are another critical area of focus, where the Director will oversee daily operations, participate in sales forecasting, and lead monthly manager meetings. Collaborating with the leadership team and ARC Command, the Director will develop and implement marketing strategies to enhance sales in stores. In terms of property and equipment, the Director will ensure preventative maintenance of center properties and equipment, oversee compliance with OSHA Safety Guidelines, and manage the ARC Fleet in accordance with Federal and State Regulations. This includes controlling waste and managing minor property repairs, as well as gathering bids for property projects and working with TSA Leadership on lease renewals. Finally, the Director will work closely with the ARC Director for Rehabilitation Services to assign, supervise, and train beneficiaries, maximizing their work therapy goals and supporting their success within the organization. This role is essential for ensuring that all operational aspects of the center run smoothly and effectively, contributing to the overall mission of The Salvation Army.

Responsibilities

  • Manage staff and resources with integrity and fiscal accountability.
  • Support the Administrator for Business in budget preparation and daily management of the center budget.
  • Review finance and sales reports daily/weekly and cross-check for accuracy.
  • Oversee all product donation pick-up and store delivery.
  • Manage warehouse production to control costs while meeting customer service needs.
  • Develop and implement Product Control Procedures to prevent shrinkage.
  • Oversee purchasing of supplies needed for production following purchasing policies.
  • Work with vendors to ensure rag and bulk sales are handled effectively and profitably.
  • Maintain and review records concerning product acquisition, production, and sales, noting trends and taking appropriate action.
  • Provide Administrators with requested reports.
  • Oversee store operations and participate in sales forecasting.
  • Attend and lead monthly manager's meetings.
  • Collaborate with leadership team and ARC Command to develop marketing strategies and oversee implementation in stores.
  • Oversee preventative maintenance of center properties and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA Safety Guidelines and TSA Policies in warehouse and stores.
  • Manage the ARC Fleet to meet Federal and State Regulations and TSA Commercial Motor Vehicle Policies.
  • Update inventory for each department/property regularly.
  • Control property, utility, and product supply waste.
  • Manage minor property repairs and contact preferred vendors for projects.
  • Gather and submit bids for assigned property projects.
  • Work with TSA Leadership to identify opportunities for expansion and contraction of stores.
  • Submit all necessary documents for lease renewals.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in operations management, preferably in a non-profit or retail environment.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience in budget management.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective operational procedures.
  • Strong analytical skills to review financial and sales reports.
  • Experience in marketing strategy development and implementation.
  • Knowledge of OSHA Safety Guidelines and compliance regulations.
