About the position

As a premier provider of environmental services in the Western United States, Patriot Environmental Services is dedicated to delivering a wide range of industrial, emergency response, and remediation services. The Director of Operations will play a crucial role in overseeing the Profit and Loss (P&L) of Environmental Services, with a strong emphasis on Health and Safety, Waste Compliance, and DOT Compliance. This position requires a strategic leader who can support business development efforts across all Environmental Services, collaborating closely with the Sales team to prepare large proposals and finalize pricing for presentation to executive management. The Director will work alongside the company’s executive leadership team to set strategic direction and growth plans, ensuring that all client relationships are monitored effectively, existing accounts are nurtured, and customer issues are resolved promptly. Regular project reviews will be conducted to ensure that projects remain on schedule and within budget, while also establishing and monitoring proper change order management procedures. The role involves leading and developing a team that includes Area Managers, Area Admins, and Branch Operations Managers across various locations, actively managing their performance and making staffing decisions as necessary. A strong advocate for safety, the Director will ensure that safety programs are implemented effectively and will participate in or lead monthly safety meetings. Additionally, the role includes supporting pricing discipline, invoicing, and collection efforts to meet cash flow objectives. The responsibilities of this position may evolve, with other reasonable directives and activities assigned as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the Profit and Loss (P&L) of Environmental Services, focusing on Health and Safety, Waste Compliance, and DOT Compliance.
  • Support business development efforts for all Environmental Services.
  • Collaborate with Sales and lead large proposal preparation and final pricing for executive management presentation.
  • Work with the executive leadership team to set strategic direction and growth plans.
  • Monitor client relationships, growth of existing accounts, and resolution of customer issues.
  • Conduct ongoing project reviews to ensure projects are on time and within budget.
  • Set and monitor proper change order management procedures.
  • Lead and develop the team of Area Managers, Area Admins, and Branch Operations Managers in the assigned region.
  • Actively manage performance of team members and make hiring/termination decisions as necessary.
  • Advocate and lead a safety culture, ensuring effective implementation of safety programs.
  • Participate in or lead monthly safety meetings, both in areas of influence and companywide.
  • Support and lead pricing discipline, invoicing, and collection efforts to meet cash flow objectives.

Requirements

  • A college degree and professional certifications (PG, PE, CHMM, etc.) preferred.
  • Ten (10) years' experience in environmental service management (Emergency response, industrial cleaning, and waste management services) is required.
  • Fifteen (15) years' experience with Operations and Sales is required.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local hazardous waste and safety regulations is required.
  • Leadership experience in environmental remediation or hazardous waste with P&L management experience is required.
  • Experience leading safety programs in a safety-oriented environment is required.
  • Ability to work independently and diligently.
  • Effective organization and prioritization skills.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with lab testing techniques and requirements.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and utilize analysis to solve complex problems.
  • Highly developed ability to adapt to rapidly changing situations.
