About the position

The Director of Operations is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing and optimizing operations at the company's headquarters in Columbia, SC. This position involves managing logistical operations, employee relations, finance, business strategy, and facility management. The ideal candidate will have strong business acumen, operational expertise, and people management skills to drive operational excellence and foster a collaborative team environment. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Director will lead internal operations, develop strategic initiatives, and ensure the business runs efficiently while meeting customer expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the business ensuring that KPIs are met and customer expectations are exceeded.
  • Develop and execute departmental strategies to achieve operational excellence and support the company's strategic objectives.
  • Drive operational efficiency and effectiveness through continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Leadership Team in strategy development.
  • Manage relationships with shipping providers, including developing strategic shipping plans and negotiating rates.
  • Develop, maintain, and implement the company SOPs.
  • Oversee the entire employee lifecycle, including talent acquisition, onboarding, and performance management.
  • Promote productivity and employee morale by providing a positive working environment.
  • Coordinate departmental activities to assure collaboration towards achieving goals.
  • Communicate with staff to solve problems and evaluate staff morale and productivity.
  • Establish financial controls to keep facility operations within budget and present financial strategies to the Leadership Team.
  • Maintain a safe and productive working environment through regular inspections and resource allocation.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Oversee facility repairs, maintenance, and compliance with local laws.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related field.
  • 5 years operational management experience in a high-volume small package shipping environment.
  • Advanced technical knowledge of warehouse logistics best practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), preferably NetSuite.
  • High proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with financial management and performance optimization.
  • Knowledge of compliance with government bodies like the FDA and OSHA.
