About the position

Interfaith America is seeking a Director of Operations to join our team in Chicago. This role is pivotal in ensuring the smooth operation of our organization, which is dedicated to leveraging the strength of religious diversity for the common good. The Director of Operations will oversee legal and risk assessment, office facilities, and data security and IT infrastructure, ensuring that our operations align with our mission and values. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nonprofit operations, risk management, and team development, with a commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace. In the area of Legal and Risk Assessment, the Director will be responsible for reviewing, editing, and approving contracts with clients, vendors, and independent contractors. This includes liaising with outside counsel to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, managing the contract request process, and advising staff on risk management. The Director will also lead risk management initiatives, including the review and maintenance of insurance policies and internal risk management systems. The Office Facilities component of the role involves overseeing the Chicago office to ensure it is a welcoming and safe environment for all team members. This includes assessing space needs, proposing office use policies, and managing event requests. The Director will serve as the senior contact for building management and will be involved in safety and crisis planning initiatives. Finally, the Director will lead the Information Technology strategy, ensuring that all employees have the necessary IT resources and that data security is prioritized. This includes overseeing the relationship with IT managed services providers and ensuring compliance with best practices and regulatory requirements. The Director will collaborate with various departments on cross-organizational projects and be an active member of the Data Governance Steering Committee.

Responsibilities

  • Review, edit, and approve all contracts with clients, grantees, vendors, and independent contractors.
  • Liaise with outside counsel to review intellectual property agreements and high-value contracts.
  • Manage and maintain IA's contract request process including templates for grants and independent contractors.
  • Advise IA staff on risk in contracts and troubleshoot specific contract issues.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations related to 501(c)3 operations in partnership with outside counsel.
  • Lead risk management, including review and maintenance of insurance policies and internal risk management systems.
  • Oversee Chicago office facilities and collaborate with the Office Manager to ensure a welcoming and safe environment.
  • Assess space needs and propose office use policy decisions, overseeing any structural updates or redesign projects.
  • Lead Information Technology strategy to ensure all employees have the necessary IT resources.
  • Oversee data security for the organization, ensuring protection of the network.

Requirements

  • 5-8 years of experience leading operations and risk assessment.
  • 10+ years of work experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
  • Experience with reviewing contracts and working with outside counsel or an MBA or equivalent experience.
  • Supervisory experience with a focus on team support and development.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
